Guns Down Friday empowers young men to become confident leaders and make positive choices. Through mentorship, life skills training, and real-world opportunities, participants learn to navigate challenges, build resilience, and inspire change in their communities.

The Guns Down Friday Leadership Academy is a transformative program designed for young men living in challenging neighborhoods. Our mission is to provide guidance, support, and practical skills that help youth navigate life’s obstacles, make positive choices for their future, and stay safe from gun-related harm. We focus on violence prevention through mentorship, career readiness, and strategies to enter the workforce successfully.
Through a structured pathway approach, participants will develop learn essential life skills, including development communication, decision-making, financial literacy, and conflict resolution.
Guns Down Friday Leadership Academy empowers young men to build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills, paving the way for a productive, safe, and fulfilling life.
Key Focus Areas:

The Guns Down Friday Mobile Trauma Unit brings care and support to young people who survive gun violence, especially in neighborhoods where safety is a daily challenge. Youth receive a Recovery Support Kit with an emergency tourniquet to teach bleeding control, gift card to replace items damaged in the shooting, mental health resources to cope with life after the shooting, and life skills resources to help navigate challenging environments. Youth also get school or GED re-entry support, and families receive referrals for victim assistance and legal help.
Affiliates are children connected to Guns Down Friday through an Ambassador, Alumni member, school, or community partner. They participate in age-appropriate activities and events designed to introduce life skills, positive decision-making, and safety awareness. This level focuses on building trust, confidence, and healthy relationships while preparing youth for future entry into the Leadership Academy.
Ambassadors are youth ages 14 & 15 currently enrolled in the Guns Down Friday Leadership Academy. They complete intensive summer leadership training and continue development throughout the year. Ambassadors build essential life skills, including communication, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and financial literacy. They also receive career guidance, mentorship, and opportunities to represent the program, while serving as positive role models for younger participants.
Alumni are participants who have successfully completed all levels of the Guns Down Friday Leadership Academy. This stage emphasizes advanced leadership development, workforce readiness, and long-term success. Alumni may mentor younger participants, pursue higher education or career pathways, and continue receiving support as they transition into adulthood, demonstrating the lasting impact of the program.
